Iki is a sleep-support wristband for MUJI, using gentle sensory cues to reduce nighttime restlessness and support natural sleep.

1 in 3 adults suffers from
poor sleep quality worldwide.
Noise, stress, and irregular rhythm keep the body alert when it should rest.
Yet almost no product can make you sleep better tonight.
Most sleep devices stop at tracking — they measure numbers, but they don’t calm the body.

If falling asleep still means turning, adjusting, or getting back up, the body stays alert instead of winding down.

Yet almost no product can make you sleep better tonight.
This project bridges the gap between awareness and intervention, transforming data into a calm, sensory experience that restores balance through breathing and warmth.

Most sleep devices stop at tracking — they measure numbers, but they don’t calm the body.

If falling asleep still means turning, adjusting, or getting back up, the body stays alert instead of winding down.
There is a better way.
How the body responds to its environment
Just as we sleep more easily beside someone we trust,
the body calms when its rhythm feels supported.
Sleep readiness is strongly linked to rhythmic entrainment — the body’s tendency to align its internal rhythms with external stimuli.
By recreating a calm and steady rhythm through subtle vibration, warmth, and light, the device guides the body to slow down naturally and prepare for rest.
Rhythmic Entrainment
How might we support sleep in a way that feels natural and non-disruptive?
How the body is guided

Breathing Synchronization
Built-in motion and pulse sensors detect the user’s resting rhythm, outputting micro-vibrations at around 6 breaths per minute to stabilize breathing.
Thermal Modulation
A compact Peltier element warms and cools the wrist within a ±2 °C range, imitating the thermal cycle that occurs before sleep.
Low-noise Haptic System
An LRA motor integrated beneath a silicone diffusion layer ensures silent, skin-level vibration feedback.

After studying Muji’s brand language,
I explored multiple detail combinations.
To stay true to Muji’s design philosophy and its minimal aesthetic, I kept only one subtle surface detail, allowing the form to stay simple yet iconic.

Minimal by day, supportive by night.
In daylight, the surface remains subtle and neutral.
At night, a gentle press awakens a soft glow, quietly indicating the time.

Responsive to Your Rhythm.
The underside sensor reads heart rate, temperature trends, and quiet nighttime movements.
With this information, the wristband adjusts its rhythm and guides the user into alignment.

Intuitive Control.
The side button offers intuitive control over vibration levels and temperature modulation.

Secure by Design.
The single-band structure stays secure during sleep while also making accessory changes easy for the user.

Rooted in Nature
Connected Through Touch
The palette keeps Muji’s classic neutral white and adds tones inspired by nature.
This combination sustains the honest, quietly tactile character central to Muji’s design philosophy.
